Textbooks

Selection criteria and ordering procedure

One of the largest textbook publishers in the world is Pearson Education. They have brought together under one umbrella more than 20 well known imprints such as Pearson Prentice Hall, Pearson Longman, Pearson Allyn & Bacon, Pearson Addison-Wesley, Pearson Benjamin Cummings, etc.

Since 2000, "Companion Websites" have become the new way for publishers to support on-line education. A Companion Website provides helpful interaction between the student and the text and may also provide some relevant links to the Internet. See the article on Companion Websites. Calvary University regards the selection of textbooks of the utmost importance. They are the main source of information. A good textbook should have the following characteristics:

  1. The information is relevant and, therefore, applicable.
  2. The order of the material is sequentially logical.
  3. The content covers all aspects of the particular field.
  4. The latest developments and news in the field are represented.
  5. It provides a selective portal to The Internet (the World).
  6. It is often supported by an interactive Companion Website.
  7. It has clearly defined objectives to direct towards desired outcomes.
  8. It has all the necessary elements to provide a basis for quality learning.

Calvary University selects textbooks to comply with as many of these criteria as possible in order to provide a solid basis for producing a Course CD-Rom resource disk. On this Course CD we place a Study Guide, PowerPoint presentations, support material, Web-links (if available) and many more such resources for the student and the Academic Tutor. All these elements are integrated for the maximum benefit of the student.

It is the student’s responsibility to order the textbooks from any one of the recommended online bookshop outlets. Some of the Learning Centres may also have a selected range of textbooks in stock.
