Getting to know us and how we approach e-learning

Introduction

Calvary Academics offers seminars and short courses to students who wish to direct their zeal at a specific subject. The attendance certificates all have a credit value and are credited-recognised by an e-learning University as well as other Tuition Centres and Colleges.

Seminars

A seminar is a form of academic training, at a university or offered by a commercial or professional organization, in small groups where learners are expected to participate during meetings. Normally, participants must not be beginners. The idea behind seminars is to confront attendees with the methodology of their chosen subject, and also to familiarise them with practical problems that might emerge when confronting the main topic of the seminar in their work situation, or during their research work.

Our seminars include open discussion, where questions can be raised and debates conducted. Participants benefit from fast-track learning due to participation in small group discussions, where conclusions are reached through logical argument. Through a process of interactive conversation, deductive and inductive reasoning shapes the argument. When valid conclusions are made, and the participants identify these as compelling — they learn indelible truths in this interactive process.

Skills Training

Our aim is skills training. A skill is defined as that which the learner can do to perform a work-related task. Simple understanding is not a skill. The learner must go beyond understanding to the application of knowledge in order to achieve a job-related task. In the context of business management, communication, or ministry, this boils down to things such as:

  • Performing a function
  • Rendering a service   or
  • Demonstrating a competency

Mentoring

We believe in the principle of mentoring, which is the way in which our Lord Jesus trained His disciples. Education cannot be academic training alone, it must also involve character development. At Calvary we adhere to Christian standards and values to provide an environment which the student chooses to accept. We trust you do.
