Course Professor

The role of the professor in the learning process

The Course Professor’s Main Tasks

Every course has a course professor who is a specialist in that particular field. The professor is also responsible for the following:

  • The Course Study Guide
  • Personal notes to guide students to resources and references, as well as reminders which are placed on the course Web-page
  • Drawing up the test questions as well as the assignments and tasks for the assessment process
  • The moderation of the entire assessment process
  • Keeping the course Website up-to-date with current and updated learning material
  • Sending messages to students through the course Website
  • The hotline (Website e-mail message board) between you, the professor and your academic tutor
  • Compiling the FAQ list for the course where your questions will be shared with other students doing the same course

Answering questions. The course professor will answer questions by publishing both the question and the professor’s answer on the Course FAQ. This will form an excellent database of knowledge for other students taking the same course. A student is responsible to carefully read the instructions or research the topic under question and try to get to an answer (with the help of the Tutor) as a first recourse. This is part of academic enquiry through which the learner becomes enriched in many ways.

Notices through e-mail exchange. By virtue of enrolling for a course, a student will be in contact with the CU professor for that specific course. The name and code of the course, the number of credits for the course and details of the prescribed textbook which must be purchased will all be contained in the Study Guide which is written for the course.
