Ministry Today

The importance of Ministry in our daily life

Growing Spiritually

Spiritual growth should be a priority of every ministry assistant. Daily devotional and Bible study time will alow you to maintain a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Out of such a relationship you will find the spiritual resources to be effective in active ministry.

Where are you on your personal spiritual journey? Where do you want to be? Do you have assurance that you are in God's will in your spiritual, personal, and professional life? These are questions that will be answered as you study, without asking them.

Several important factors will influence your personal spiritual growth.

  • Involvement in a local church. The fact that you are active in a church does not exempt you from taking on leadership responsibilities or ministries within in your church. You grow through fellowship and accountability to other Christians.
  • Maintaining a daily quiet time and personal program of Bible study. Many techniques, systems, and tools are available to help you establish a quality time of fellowship with the Lord. A good devotional guide such as is provided by e-Sword can be inspirational.
  • Sharing your faith. Life-style evangelism, sharing Christ in the normal traffic patterns of life, is imperative, not an option for Christians. Life-style evangelism means that you are comfortable talking about the Lord, how He is blessing and guiding you. You need to also be ready and equipped to share the gospel with troubled, hurting, and lost persons who come to the church.

Personal involvement in ministry.

How and when do you serve the Lord outside of your job? Being devoted in ministry you may cook in a soup kitchen, host a children's Bible Club, teach a Sunday School class, sing in the choir, organize nursing home visits, lead missions groups, sponsor youth trips, or arrange the flowers for the Sunday meetings. Through these ministries you will be involved in the Body of Christ because you live out your faith through these ministry opportunities.

Growing as a Person

In addition to spiritual growth, you should be growing as a person. You must recognize your uniqueness and worth as a creation of God with a special purpose. Personal growth begins with setting goals.

Setting goals is a spiritual activity. God has a plan and purpose for your life. Setting personal goals means prayerfully seeking His will and asking for His guidance in following and fulfilling it. Think and pray about your life 10 years from now. What will it be like? Where will you live? What will you be doing? Will you be financially stable? How will you spend your work time, your leisure time? Now is the time to equip yourself for ministry in order to be ready when that call may come for which years of preparation are needed. This preparation takes place in a hands-on situation, guided by a personal tutor while you are fully involved in usefull ministry opportunities as the Lord may lead.
