Business Administration Business Administration programmes leading to qualifications Programme PurposeThe purpose of the learning programmes in Business Administration is to equip entrepreneurs and managers with the skills necessary to manage effectively and efficiently in the world of business. The programmes are designed specifically to develop the competence of entrepreneurs and managers to apply the structures, principles and practices of Business Administration at all levels. Undergraduate ProgrammesThe undergraduate learning programmes are specifically designed to develop the competence of entrepreneurs, junior and middle management to apply the structures, principles and practices of Business Administration at operational and tactical levels. Thus, the courses are operational and tactical in nature and are presented at these levels. The Undergraduate Programmes comprise the following:
Postgraduate ProgrammesThe postgraduate learning programmes are specifically designed to develop the competence of entrepreneurs, middle and top management to apply the structures, principles and practices of Business Administration at top management level. Thus, the courses are strategic in nature and are presented at strategic management level. The Postgraduate Programmes comprise the following:
Learning PathwayThe manner in which the learning programmes are structured provide an excellent learning pathway in the field of Business Administration. Each programme serves as the foundation or building block for the next programme. The Cert BA serves as foundation for the Dip BA, the Dip BA as foundation for the BBA, and so on. This implies that all the preceding programmes serve as foundation for the MBA and DBA. All the programmes are therefore interlinked and serve as the foundation, supplement or extension for the next. These programmes commence with foundation courses, after which students can progress to a level where they need to display an advanced level of managerial and entrepreneurial maturity in terms of knowledge, understanding, skills, experience, values and attitudes. The programmes provide excellent broad-based training for a wide range of management and business career opportunities. MBA ProgrammeYou will notice that the required additional credits for the MBA are, in comparison to the other programmes, lower. The reason is that a student who has completed the preceding learning programmes has accumulated more credits than the minimum credits of 690 required for the MBA qualification and requires only an additional 180 credits The programmes preceding the MBA programme are designed in such a way that they do not only serve as the basis for the MBA programme, but are also regarded as part of the MBA programme. Students who have successfully completed the five programmes will be credited for the courses that would normally be included as part of the MBA programme. This implies that students who are granted the undergraduate and BBA Hons qualifications are in fact also completing parts of the programme and working towards the MBA qualification. Students with the necessary credentials who wish to enter the MBA programme directly, will be assessed and credited according to the RPL system. Such students must in any case fulfil the requirements for all courses in the undergraduate and BBA Hons, either by recognition for prior learning, transferred credits or taking the courses included in the programmes. Thus, students who obtained the undergraduate and BBA Hons qualifications will have a distinct advantage over those who apply for direct entry to the MBA programme. Core CoursesThe learning programmes referred to in the preceding section were designed in such a way that they form the core or mainstream courses in Business Administration, from which specialist programmes and courses can be taken.
