Rules about concentrations (Majors)

Rule 6: Each academic year should have a concentration of 25%+ credits. This is ensured by taking at least 2 courses per academic year in such a chosen field.

Rule 7: The Bachelor year requires 80+ credits in Majors (20% of 390).

Rule 8: If an endorsement of 70 credits (in another field) follows the Bachelor year, the Bachelor year concentration may be 38+ credits (minimum 25%). The following Honours year must then complete the remainder of the 80 credits.

Rule 9: The Bachelor year following a Diploma of a different field must have a concentration of 140+ credits to effect the change of direction in discipline.

Note: Any surplus credits are carried over to the next year(s).

Rules 1 to 5 deal with Programmes & Endorsements

Each of the 4 columns illustrate aspects of these rules:

  1. The straightforward succession of qualifications up to Honours
  2. The minimum requirements for a specialization in a field on every level.
(These credits are based on 25% of each programme: 30/120 or 38/150)
  3. The Bachelor year has 80 credits when no endorsement is offered
  4. A Diploma in any field + a Bachelor with a concentration of 140 credits in a specific field.
(See note below about changing direction of field)

Note: After a Diploma in a different field from the student’s current intended studies,
a change of direction can be accomplished by taking a Bachelor year in a new field
(discipline) with courses specializing in the new field with a value of at least 140 credits.
An Honours and Masters may now follow as usual in this new field.
